Dan S. Boyd
Dan S. Boyd has his B.A. with Honors (1972) and J.D. with Honors (1975) from the University of Texas at Austin. He is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Civil Trial Law and Civil Appellate Law.
Mr. Boyd was Chair of the Business Litigation Section of the Dallas Bar Association in 1990. He was national Chairman of Litigation for Johnson & Gibbs, P.C. (1991-92) and Baker & McKenzie (1999-2000). Mr. Boyd is co-author (with Texas Supreme Court Justice Scott Brister) of Texas Pretrial Practice, a two volume treatise published by James Publishing Company.
Mr. Boyd is the author of numerous law review articles, and his writings have been cited for authority in published opinions by several Texas courts, including the Supreme Court of Texas.
Mr. Boyd has frequently lectured to other lawyers as part of continuing legal education seminars. He was Adjunct Professor of Law at SMU Law School from 1984-87, where he taught Trial and Appellate Procedure.
Mr. Boyd has appeared as a legal expert on the news programs of the CBS and NBC local television affiliates. He has been quoted on legal news issues by the British Broadcasting Company, the Washington Post, the Associated Press, the Houston Chronicle, the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Business Journal, and the Fort Worth Business Press.
On eight occasions, Mr. Boyd was named a Texas Superlawyer by Texas Monthly magazine based on a vote taken by thousands of Texas lawyers. Superlawyers are limited to the top 5% of Texas lawyers.
In 2006, Boyd was admitted for life as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. The Fellows limits its membership to no more than one third of one per cent of the bar of each state. It is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges, and law professors whose professional, public, and private careers have demonstrated dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession.
Ed Stapleton
Ed Stapleton has been licensed to practice law in Texas since 1976. He has been trying 5 to 10 jury trials per year ever since. Early on, he had much experience in civil rights/civil liberties type cases, and later he had a flourishing practice in serious personal injury and wrongful death cases. At most times during his career, he has also handled criminal cases, and that is primarily what he is doing now.
Mr. Stapleton is a graduate of and has also been, for a long time, a teacher at the renowned Trial Lawyer College in Wyoming that is sponsored by the great American trial lawyer, Gerry Spence. Mr. Stapleton uses a method of trial preparation involving role reversal and reenactment of the story as taught at the Trial Lawyer College. In serious trials, he uses this technique with most important witnesses. Mr. Stapleton is very fluent in Spanish.
Ed has been a frequent seminar speaker at CLE events for practicing attorneys, and has spoken on jury trial, jury selection, and other important aspects of litigation.
Mr. Stapleton is one of the few lawyers in Texas who is court approved to handle death penalty cases, and he has done this on several occasions. Presently, he is most interested in defending very serious crimes, particularly death penalty cases.
